Privacy

SAUMST needs no account and shows no advertising. Your progress stays on your device. The game counts how often and how long it is played, without knowing by whom.

As of 6 October 2026. This policy applies to the app SAUMST and to the website saumst.com.

The app

What stays on your device

The app stores on your device which puzzles you have played, how many moves you needed and whether you opened the hint. It also stores the language you chose, whether the explanations of the game have been shown to you, a copy of the puzzles and the date of your last start. The app sends your progress nowhere. We do not see it. What it reports for the statistics is described further down.

If you back up your iPhone with Apple or on a computer, your progress is part of that backup. It belongs to your Apple account, not to us. If you delete the app, your progress is deleted.

When the app downloads puzzles

When it starts, the app asks our database whether there are new puzzles. As with any request on the internet, the server learns your IP address and the time. The app also sends the language you chose. It sends no name, no identifier of your device and nothing about your progress.

The database is run by Supabase (Supabase Inc., USA) on our behalf. The puzzles are kept in a data centre in Zurich. Supabase keeps technical logs of the requests in order to run and protect the service. Supabase and its service providers may also process this access data outside Switzerland, among other places in the USA.

What the game counts

We would like to know whether the game is played and which puzzles are too hard or too easy. So the app tells our database when something happens, and the database keeps count:

Each report comes with the language, the version of the game and whether it is the app or the website. The app sends no name and no identifier of your device with it, and the reports cannot be put together into a person or a device. The database keeps no single reports, only counters per day, for example “41 starts in the app in German on 6 October”, and per puzzle and month. We do not record where you are.

So that a device is counted only once per day, week and month, the app remembers the date of the last start on your device. This date does not leave the device. As with any request on the internet, the server learns your IP address and the time when a report arrives; neither is in the statistics.

When you buy the full version

You buy the full version in the app through the App Store. Apple handles the purchase: we learn neither your name nor your payment details. The app asks the App Store on your device whether your Apple Account owns the full version, and remembers the answer on the device. No other service stands between the app and Apple.

The app counts on your device how many of the free puzzles you have played. It sends that nowhere either.

Links to sources

For some puzzles the app names sources. A link opens the other website in your browser. From then on that website’s privacy policy applies.

App Store

You get the app from Apple’s App Store. Apple’s terms and privacy policy apply to that. Apple shows us how often the app was downloaded and how often the full version was bought. We receive figures on use and on crashes only in summary and only from devices on which sharing with app developers is switched on. We cannot recognise individual people in them.

The website

The website is hosted by Infomaniak Network SA in Switzerland. When a page is requested, the server records in a log: your IP address, the time, the page requested and details of your browser. This serves the operation and the security of the website.

The website sets no cookies and uses no analytics tools of other providers. Fonts and images come from our server, not from other providers. The front page does not count its visits.

The game can also be played in a browser. It then stores your progress and a copy of the puzzles in your browser’s storage, not with us. It downloads new puzzles in the same way as the app, and it counts in the same way as the app what is described above under “What the game counts”; the date of the last start then lies in your browser’s storage. Nothing can be bought in the browser. If you delete the website’s data in your browser, your progress is deleted.

In the browser, the full version can only be unlocked by a link that we send to someone personally. If you open such a link, the game asks our database whether the code in the link is still free, and keeps the code in your browser’s storage. At every start it asks whether the link still holds. For each link the database holds the code, a note of ours on whom it is meant for, and when it was redeemed. We store nothing about your browser or your device. If you delete the website’s data in your browser, the unlocking is deleted as well.

The editing interface is meant for the editors only. Whoever signs in there does so with an email address and a password. Supabase manages these credentials.

When you write to us

If you send us an email, we use your address and your message to answer you. We do not pass them on and keep them only for as long as your request requires.

Legal basis

We process personal data in accordance with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection. Where the General Data Protection Regulation of the EU applies, we rely on our legitimate interest in providing the game, running it securely and improving it (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Your rights

You can ask which data we process about you, and ask us to correct or delete them. Because the game works without an account, we as a rule have nothing but the emails you have written to us and, if we have sent you a link to the full version, our note on it. Write to the address above for this.

In Switzerland you can also turn to the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), in the EU to the data protection authority of the place where you live.

Changes

If the game changes in a way that changes this policy too, for instance when the app can send notifications, we will adapt it. The date of this version stands at the top.
